Happy New Year!

I'm heading out the door in a couple of minutes and won't be back home until next year, but I thought I would stop by for the last post of the year to wish you all a happy new year.

Take care and have a magical night!

My Christmas days

I'm back home from being with my boyfriend since the 25th. I had some wonderful Christmas days with my family. I celebrated Christmas eve with my whole family in our house. The Christmas tree was beautiful, the food was delicious, I had great presents and everything was just as it should be. On the 25th my boyfriend and I went to his apartment to have a fun night with some of his friends and I stayed with him after that until today. We had some very lovely days of sleeping in, visiting his grandparents, playing games and eating burgers, shopping at the Christmas sale and baking cookies.
Unfortunately I didn't get to take any photos during the Christmas days, but I will make a post later to show you my presents.

I hope you had a lovely Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Just stopping by to wish you all a merry Christmas while my boyfriend is fast asleep in my bed (he worked all night and didn't sleep until now). The next couple of days is filled with family, presents, Christmas dinner and everything else that starts with a "Christmas" and probably no blogging.
Enjoy your holidays and have a wonderful time with your loved ones!

Love and Christmas wishes from here.

11 years

These two little cuties are turning 11 today. They're getting pretty old. Their names are Mickey and Buster and they are so loved by my family (and me of course!). They are brothers and of the breed Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Mickey (the one at the left) is deaf and Buster knows, so he's "helping" him by running up in front of him when we call for them.

I guess that's all. The picture pretty much speaks for itself I think.

Ready for Christmas

Right this morning I had my last Christmas present done, so now I'm totally ready for Christmas and my little secret present corner is complete. I don't have as many presents this year as I usually have because I've been saving up for starting on a school I'm starting on in January (more about this later), but I think the ones I have are really good.
I love giving presents! I love choosing the presents, I love wrapping the presents, I love it when people like what you get them, and I think I'm more excited on Christmas eve to give presents than to receive them (though I really really like that too!).

Oh, and you should listen to this. It's a version of Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody" by the Lush Nightjar Fledgling band. I think it's extremely beautiful. A free download (here) of the song is Lush's Christmas present to their customers.

My skin care routine

I thought it would be fun to share with you my skin care routine, as I've finally settled with a few products that really works for me and my skin. I've been far around and tried so many different moisturizers, cleansers and masks. Some have done good for my skin and some have absolutely not. I want to mention that my skin is more complex than it should be and wants what it wants, and wants it every day (just one day without my cleanser and I both see and feel a difference).
I would say that my skin goes under the category "combination", but in the same time as it tends to be oily, just the slightest change in the weather makes it confused and it turns dry on spots under my eyes, on my cheeks and sometimes on my nose too. So yes, it has been really difficult for me to stay friends with this schizophrenic skin.
And even though I'm saying now that those four products are keepers I'm probably going to cheat on them once again and try something else, because I so easily get tempted by ads and reviews in magazines.

But here you go, those are my essentials in skin care right now:

1. Angels on Bare Skin from Lush. This I know, I will not cheat on! It's simply angelic. No exaggeration. It's just perfect for my skin, which really likes to be exfoliated (this does a light exfoliation both morning and evening, but not so much that it strips your skin from oils). You blend it with water in your hand and it turns into a cleansing milk. I should probably a whole blog post about this. It's gorgeous and it makes wonders on my skin.

2. Balancing Rose Toner from Organic Apoteke. I started using this toner a couple of months ago after not having used toner since I was 15, and I was surprised how well it works for me. It really does that extra to mu skin before I apply my moisturizer. And it smells beautiful.

3. Korres Pomegranate Cleansing Mask. This I discovered not long ago and I'm already in love. I use it twice a week to cleanse my skin a little deeper. It smells very good and doesn't sting or feel uncomfortable as I think many masks tend to do on my skin. After rinsing it off and using toner and moisturizer my skin feels so soft and clean.

4. Vanishing Cream from Lush. This has served my skin really good through my first pot of it. It feels good on my skin and haven't caused any breakouts. Also it works together with Angels on Bare Skin beautifully. I'm curious on trying other of the face creams from Lush though, but I'm not sure I should do it, as this actually works really good (see what I said about cheating on my products?).

The Loved One and Agnes Thor

I just fell completely in love with these wonderful holiday ice-skating photographs taken by Agnes Thor for The Loved One. I adore the colours and the mood of them and they remind me of me when I go ice-skating (NOT because of the graciousness or the lightness these models obviously possess). I always insist on wearing something pretty - and definitely not pants. While I'm like the worst ice-skater in the world it somehow makes me feel a little more gracious when I'm taking baby steps holding in the fence around the ice and waiting for someone to take my hand so I dare to let go of clinging myself to the fence.

By the way I just discovered the photographs by Agnes Thor - they're all seiously beautiful! There might be shown more of them here on my blog.

And you know The Loved One, right? And Hannah and Landon? If you don't, hurry up and get to know 'em if you just kinda like vintage (clothing) , prettyness and beautiful photographs. I'm a fan!

Christmas decorations

Around my room you find little pieces of Christmas decorations that make this time of the year a little more festive to me. There's not a lot, and actually I have a whole box filled with decorations, but I didn't really feel like putting them all up this year. But I thought I would give you a little tour around my room to show you what I've chosen to put up.

A present from my best friend when we were 10 years old.

Look at the little pocelain bird in the background, peeking into the photo.

The lavender bouquet on my bed lamp has gotten company of a little heart ornament.

I made these little angels around four years ago when I had a period of time where I was obsessed with sewing "dolls" for decorations. I think they're pretty cute.

Thisis my favourite Christmas ornament. I won it in a raffle in 1996 when I was only four years old and I still remember how excited I was when I won it.

First Christmas present of the year

In the past weekend my boyfriend and I visited his mum to celebrate early Christmas with her and my boyfriend's sister. At this occasion I got my first Christmas present of the year. My boyfriend had passed my wish list on to his mum so she knew that I wished for the Moleskine Daily Planner and to use with the diary she also gave me a set of two black pencils and a sharpener (from Moleskine too). I couldn't be happier!
I can't wait to use this soft and smooth planner for all of the 366 days of 2012.

By the way it was such a lovely visit. We came on Saturday morning and had a delicious brunch and then we went to a Christmas market in the afternoon where I had my first candy apple. Then in the evening we had the big Christmas dinner and exchanged presents.

I hope you had a lovely weekend too!

50/50

Last Friday my boyfriend and I went to the cinema to watch 50/50. I read a review of the movie on a blog and suggested it to my boyfriend because it seemed like a movie we would both like. We find that it's hard to find movies that we both like, since we have very different tastes in movies so we decided to watch it together.
One that was great too was that I really really like Joseph Gordon Levitt and he really really likes Seth Rogen, and they play the two main characters in 50/50.
My expectations to the movie were quite high, but it managed to more than live up to my expectations.
It was very very sad and serious, but life-affirming and charming in the same time, and it takes a perspective on cancer and living with it that touched me deeply.
I cried more than once, so having my boyfriend and his hand (and arms!) beside me was perfect.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt does such a good job playing Adam who gets the cancer diagnosis, and he and Seth Rogen plays so well together as friends fighting the cancer together.

This is kind of amazing

I just found out that The Kooks, which is one of my absolute favourite bands are coming to Denmark this summer on the NorthSide Festival which takes place in Aarhus from the 15th to 17th of June! I'm extremely excited! And this year I don't have any exams, so I'm definitely going and taking my best friend with me, whether she wants it or not.

Can't wait!

Dear Santa...

A coupleof days ago both my mum and my boyfriend asked for my wish list for Christmas this year, so I made one for them and I thought that I would share it here too. I put it together on Polyvore with pictures of all the things that I wish for this year, and I actually think it looks quite good.

1. Wake-up Light from Phillips - I've been wanting to try this for some time now, and I just hate being waked up abruptly by an alarm clock or a cell phone - especially on dark mornings like we have now, so I think this would be great.

2. Cool Bananas Envelope Leather Case for my Macbook. I bought my computer a couple of months ago and I really need something to protect it when I'm carrying it around. This is nice-looking too.

3. A necklace with a star on it. Or a pearl. Just because.

4. I love painting with watercolours and right now I'm using my little brother's cheap ones from the toy store, so I'm wishing for this Winsor & Newton Watercolour Paints Pocket Box.

5. And for painting on I'm wishing for the Moleskine Watercolour Notebook. I'm in love with the notebooks from Moleskine!

6. I'm starting on a school in January with which I'm going on a trip to Lapland. It's freezing cold up there and I don't have any really good winter boots, so these from Merrell would be perfect.

7. For storing my documents and thousands of photos I'm wishing for a portable drive, preferably My Passport Essential from Western Digital in white.

8. The headphones that came with my iPod are broken so I really need a new pair, and Bagis from Urbanears in white looks like they were made for me.

9. I'm in love with the Fluted Contrast Mugs from Royal Copenhagen and have been for a while. I would love one in aquamarine and pearl for when I'm moving in with my best friend this summer.

10. A daily planner for planning my days would be nice too. From Moleskine of course. I just can't decide if I like the extra small one or the pocket sized one the best.

11. I need a new curling iron so bad. This is a Multistyler from Phillps. It would be so much fun to have all those different styling tools.

12. My hair loves a good hair oil and Davines is one of my favourite hair care brands, so their new OI/OIL Absolutely Beautifying Potion is definitely on my list this year.

And then some dvd's:

13. Lost In Translation. Just loving Sofia Coppola's movies.

14. Vicky Christina Barcelona. Scarlett Johansson and the mood of this movie makes me want to watch it again and again.

15. The Virgin Suicides. This is such a beautiful movie and again I'm using the reason about loving her movies.

Oh wow, it's a long one this year. Well, then there's more to choose from. Or not to choose. I actually really like it when you get something that you didn't even knew that you wanted that the giver just came up with.

What do you wish for this year?

My weekend

I've had such a lovely weekend! Well, it's been really busy and all and I've been up to a lot, but all of my arrangements since friday have involved eating so I don't complain at all. I love eating!

On Friday I had a dinner date with my boyfriend and it was so nice. We went to an Italian restaurant, which was really small and cozy with a pianist playing in the middle of the room and crystal chandeliers making a dimmed lighting. I had a delicious potato-leek soup and pasta with tomato cream sauce and salmon. It was so good and at a very reasonable price too. I love eating at restaurants but I don't do it too often, so this night was really something special.
So on Saturday we had a family Christmas dinner at my boyfriend's uncle and aunt's. There was plenty of different Christmas dishes to choose between and there was arranged little "breaks" from the eating with crafts and Wii-playing. This was a lovely day too, and I'm beginning to feel quite comfortable around my boyfriend's family, they have all been so sweet and welcoming to me.
After this day we curled up with a movie and went to bed early to be ready for another Christmas dinner on Sunday, at my grandmother's this time. Again there was plenty of food, and we spent some hours eating and talking and eating a little more, before we left early because I had to go to work.
We spent the night at my boyfriend's and this morning we had the chance to sleep in after a long weekend of family and food and Christmas, and now I'm home again and feeling like I'm getting a cold, so I will take a warm bath and go to bed early tonight and bring tea, an orange and my computer to watch Pan Am in bed.

Have a lovely week!

Goin' on a date tonight

Getting ready to go out on a date with my boyfriend. He owes me dinner from a bet I won. I didn't shop for a month (or was it half a month? I don't remember), and he didn't think I was able to.
Here I am ragging my hair and fooling around with Photo Booth while waiting for the magic to work.
I'm just heading out the door now with a little more curls than intended. Hoping for them to settle in a bit.

Have a lovely friday evening!

1 December 2011

Hi

My name is Maria. I am 19 years old and I live in Denmark. I have created this blog to have a place to share thoughts, photographs, little things, wishes and just anything else that I might find to put here. I have had a blog before and I liked it, and now I need a little space on the internet again.

Here's a little list of facts about me.
  • I like dresses and flat shoes
  • I like old things and new things
  • I make lists for everything
  • My tv, my computer and my cell phone are white
  • I have a poster with whales on it on my wall
  • My boyfriend is a redhead
  • I'm addicted to lipbalm
  • I own seven pairs of white woolly socks (and not nearly as many pairs of heels)
  • I have read the Little House Books 11 times
  • I'm a sucker for anything in a pretty wrapping
  • I am clumsy and quite naïve
  • I enjoy listening to The Beatles
  • I can't cook (but I'm in a learning process)
  • My bike is mint coloured
  • I love flea markets
  • I have three younger brothers
  • I tend to be either happy and smiling or sad and crying - mostly smiling of course

There you go. Now you know me a little better than you did before. I look forward to making this blog my little personal space.

And happy 1st of December to anyone who might read this!
